Data Management Concepts
A One-day Experiential Workshop
Abstract
This one-day experiential workshop describes and illustrates the basic concepts of data management. It is an introductory course that is appropriate for business professionals, IS professionals, and cross-functional groups who need to understand the issues surrounding data management in medium to large scale enterprises. The course explores the nature of data as a resource, defines the data management terminology, and describes tools and techniques that are available for the management of data as a business asset. The style of the course is interactive, and during the second half of the day participants will be divided into two teams to play The Data Game, a workshop designed to bring home the concepts that have been taught throughout the day, and build stronger cross-functional teams capable of taking on the challenges of data management.
Audience
There is a minimum attendance requirement of 12 , and a maximum of 20.
The course is aimed at all levels of business and IS personnel. Interaction among participants in the class, especially in The Data Game, facilitates teamwork back on the job. For that reason it is sometimes useful to mix business and IS attendees in the same class, and to bring groups together for the session who need to interact closely to address functional or cross-functional data issues.
